Walnut is one of the major products of Karnali region and it has become Karnali’s identity too. Many farmers in Karnali region are attracted towards growing walnut but they are not getting a good variety of saplings. In this context, ERI Nepal conducted a grafting and nursery management training on Walnut from 20 to 22 December at Juphal, Dolpa. The main objective of the training was to train the lead farmers and the agricultural technicians with grafting skill and fruit nursery management techniques so that they would be able to propagate and produce saplings in their own place independently. 30 people including the farmers and agricultural technicians from different parts of Karnali region were directly benefited from the training.
The main trainer Mr. Deep Singh Lama trained the participants with different types of grafting techniques on walnut. Later, participants themselves practiced it in the field. Participants also learned how the walnut seeds are stratified before they are sown in the main nursery bed. They were also trained with manure and bio-fertilizer management techniques.
